South Burnett Regional Council
On the 15 March 2008, Nanango Shire Council amalgamated with Wondai, Murgon and Kingaroy Shire Councils to form the new South Burnett Regional Council. Throughout the transition process, the South Burnett Regional Council is committed to maintaining the current level of services provided to our residents and ratepayers. We encourage all residents and ratepayers to continue visiting your local Council office for enquiries on council services and facilities, paying bills and lodging applications, just as you do now. All current local laws, policies, fees and charges of the four former authorities will continue to apply within the former Council areas. These will be reviewed by the new Council at a later date. This website will continue to operate, with local area information together with details of the transition process and South Burnett Regional Council information. Other information can also be obtained from South Burnett Regional Council's LTC website and the former websites of Kingaroy, Murgon and Wondai Shire Councils. A new South Burnett Regional Council website is being developed to incorporate the new region. We thank you for your patience during this process. Upgrade to Kumbia Landfill
South Burnett Regional Council is holding an Information Night to discuss the imminent upgrade of the Kumbia Landfill into a Transfer Station. All members of the public are invited to attend.
The purpose of the evening is to provide information to residents of Kumbia and surrounding areas on the construction that is soon to commence and what Council is hoping to achieve through the upgrade.
The information night is being held on Wednesday, 17th September 2008 at 6.30pm at the Kumbia Hall - Supper Room.

Reopening of Yallakool Park on BP Dam
Council will like to advise that Yallakool Park on BP Dam (positioned on the foreshores of Bjelke-Petersen Dam) will be reopen for accommodation bookings as of Saturday 20th of September.
The Park offers a variety of accommodation options for the whole family with 9 self contained villas, 2 self contained deluxe cabins, 8 ensuited caravan sites and numerous powered and unpowered sites throughout the complex.
Yallakool Park on BP Dam offers a great experience with a swimming pool, tennis court, dam leisure activities and much much more.

Gordonbrook Dam Recreation Area
Users of Gordonbrook Dam Recreation Area are notified that the dam is closed to the public until further notice due to the fluctuating presence of high levels of blue green algae. This includes access to the Gordonbrook Dam Reserve via private property adjacent to this area. The picnic area is still open to the public. It has tables and composting toilets but no barbecues. - Use of the dam is to be conducted in accordance with the following conditions:
- Boat fishing is not permitted. The boat ramp is closed. Fishing is confined to bank areas and only with a relevant Permit from the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (Phone 13 25 23).
- Access onto the dam is not permitted for activities such as water skiing, canoeing, boating etc.
Access to Gordonbrook Dam Recreation Area can be gained by turning into Recreation Drive on the northern side of Memerambi. Part of the access road is gravel. An "Activities on Parks and Reserves" form needs to be completed for group users of the park/ reserve area and/or in the event of a special event. The Activities on Parks and Reserves form can be downloaded here, completed and then emailed or faxed (fax: 07 4162 4806) back to Council. Ennis Bridge Temporarily Closed
Council would like to advise that Ennis Bridge will be temporary closed from Monday 18 th February 2008 until further notice. The necessary detour signs will be erected accordingly.

FREE Online Food Safety Training Here!
Nanango Shire Council takes food hygiene within our Shire very seriously. All food businesses have oligations and Nanango Shire Council is assisting food businesses to meet these obligations by providing free access to this exciting new training tool. There is a high demand for training within the food sectore. This training will assist food handlers in developing the required skills and knowledge to ensure food is handles in a safe and hygienic manner. The program is easy to follow, includes entertaining presentation as well as interactive quizzes. A training acknowledgement fore can be printed upon completion and be kept part of your staff records. Cemeteries Database Now Available on Councils Website!
Council's cemetery records were computerised in 2007 and you can now search them directly through our web site. The Nanango Shire Cemetery Database allows you to search for a person by their surname, their first name or by both names. The database displays all the information held for that person, if a record for that person was found, including the location of their grave site. You can access the Nanango Shire Cemetery Database by clicking here or by selecting the community tab above followed by Cemeteries Database. Note: Please be aware that early burial records in the Shire were often incomplete. Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of these records by volunteer family history researchers, but if you should find a discrepancy please contact the Nanango Visitor Information Centre on (07) 4171 6871. |

New Used Oil Facility available NOW!
Used oil disposed of inappropriately, dumped in landfill or stored on farms and in garages can cause harm to the environment, so it is important that we recycle as much of it as possible. Pour your used oil back into an empty oil container and take it to the Nanango Waste Management Facilicy now for recycling. We are helping to conserve valuable resource and protect the environment and you can to! Council successfully obtained a grant through the Australian Government’s Product Stewardship for Oil Program and have installed a new used oil facility at the Nanango Waste Management Facility. As part of the Australian Government’s commitment to managing used oil, a levy-benefit system has been introduced where a levy collected on new oil funds benefit payments to used oil recyclers. Level 5 Water Restrictions For Blackbutt Water Supply Users
Updated 22 May 2007: Due to a continuing decline in water storage levels, Level 5 Water Restrictions (reflecting South East Queensland water restrictions) will apply to all premises connected to the Blackbutt Water Supply Scheme from 25th May 2007 onwards. The following mandatory water restrictions will apply to all residential premises connected to the Blackbutt Water Supply Scheme: Allowed Usage | Restrictions | Gardens and Lawns | Bucket watering is only allowed between the hours of 4:00pm and 7:00pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for odd numbered houses; and on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays for even numbered and un-numbered houses. | Washing of Vehicles | Only spot cleaning of mirrors, lights, glass and number plates with bucket is permitted | House and pavement cleaning | Bucket cleaning for external windows only | Pools | No topping up/filling allowed |
| Non-residential and commercial customers should contact Council for approval of irrigation and washing. Standpipe use continues as previously at this stage, but users are reminded that use of this water should reflect the restrictions set in Blackbutt/Benarkin and Nanango. These water restrictions are in accordance with Council's drought management policy, and Council greatly appreciates the co-operation of residents in observing them. |

Blackbutt and Nanango Watering Concessions
Watering concessions for Blackbutt and Nanango residents with a disability, or aged greater than 70 or with a medical certificate, will be able to use a hose from 4:00 pm to 4:20 pm commencing from Friday 25th May 2007. Residents with odd numbered houses will be able to use a hose on Tuesday and Saturday and even numbered and unnumbered houses on Wednesday and Sunday. |

Level 5 Water Restrictions In Nanango Upgraded From Friday 4th May 2007
Updated 27 April 2007: Due to a continuing decline of levels in the bore supply, Nanango town residents and others connected to the Nanango town water supply are advised that current Level 5 Water Restrictions will change effective Friday 4 May 2007. - The following mandatory water restrictions will apply to all residential premises connected to the Nanango Water Supply Scheme:
- Watering of gardens and lawns: Bucket watering may be used on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for odd numbered houses and on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday for even and unnumbered houses.
- Washing of vehicles: Bucket washing only
- House and pavement cleaning: Bucket cleaning only.
- Pools: No topping-up allowed
Residents located out of town or those without street numbers should use their Rural Address Number for their odd/even number reference. Non-residential and commercial customers should contact Council for approval of irrigation and washing. At this stage standpipe use continues as previously.
These restrictions will remain in force until further notice and fines can be imposed for failure to observe them. Council greatly appreciates the co-operation of residents in this matter.

Home WaterWise Rebate Scheme
The Home WaterWise Rebate Scheme offers all Queensland householders cash rebates for a number of water-saving devices purchased between 16th August 2006 and 30th June 2009. Rebateable items include shower heads, rainwater tanks, dual-flush toilet systems, water-efficient clothes washers, swimming pool covers/rollers and grey water systems. The Department of Natural Resources and Water’s website offers a number of fact sheets designed to inform householders of the conditions and eligibility for claims the rebate. Residents should note that that these rebates are offered by the State Government, so application forms should be sent to the Home WaterWise Rebate Scheme office in Brisbane. Council nonetheless encourages all householders to take advantage of this scheme, which will help conserve our Shire's valuable water resources in the future. |
